Lumen Station #3: Reap and Sow publication launch

April 25, 2015

Having received a lot of attention by contemporary art recently, the topic of the Lumen Station publication will be agricultural production. More specifically, strategies of self-sustenance and survivial for individuals, small groups or a whole society, that have emerged primarily, although not eclusively within art projects, and were created by artists.Utopias and dystopias, the potential of a forever inaccessible, brave better world, or that of a collapse into darker systems following present-day negative tendencies-these concepts have always accompanied the history of humankind. However, in the recent past there has been an inevitable abundance of theories forecasting a collapse, and, as a response to these, agricultural production, self sustenance and return to nature became optimistical,counter-utopian ideas. This phenomenon is not so much aesthetical but rather social, but in fact it does keep artists with social responsibilities occupied.

Lumen Station #4: Photography & Activism publication launch

May 22, 2015

This Station publication is co-edited by the „Photography & Activism” Group. Established by coordinator Gabriella Csoszó, the group was brought forth in search of new and realistic possibilities of solidarity and representation. The course “Photography & Activism” consists of lectures, workshops embodying both activism and photography, and dedicated field work, in collaboration with prominent civil organization A Város Mindenkié (The City Belongs To Everybody). The publication to be released now features the work and the methodology of the group, with specific emphasis on helping those who feel like taking up photography with a similar activist attitude. Series of photos and captions / texts shed light on the quotidian activities of taking social responsibilities, functioning of the media, and results of the project.

The publication is in Hungarian.

The publication will be presented by the editors.
