OFF at

documenta fifteen

June 18 – September 25, 2022

“OFF has been invited to join thirteen other organisations in the core team of the so-called ‘international lumbung’ for the 2022 edition of documenta (documenta fifteen), to take place in Kassel, Germany, from June to September this year. This team has been gathered by the ruangrupa collective invited to undertake the artistic direction of this edition of documenta. They have travelled all over the world in recent years asking actors of the art world to participate in an extensive collaboration. The Indonesian ruangrupa is an art collective whose work is defined by the concept of ‘lumbung’, a concept based on resource sharing and community. With the involvement of other organisations, they want to expand this operating model into an interlocal lumbung network that can ensure the sustainability of various local and international collaborations and organisations beyond documenta 2022. OFF’s invitation was preceded by a 2019 visit of ruangrupa member Farid Rakun to Budapest as part of the Dot.To.Dot residency programme in Budapest. OFF-Biennale will participate in documenta fifteen with two projects and a publication.”

“Whatifs and Whynots”: OFF-Playground”

Since the second OFF-Biennanale in 2017, playing games, community building and free creation have been omnipresent in OFF’s activities, and so in Kassel, we create a ‘construction site’ that has the potential of a playground while questioning its normative nature and its expectations of ‘how to play’.
