Urbanity – The City Where You Make the Decisions (Live Board Game)

Urbanity – The City Where You Make the Decisions (Live Board Game)

May 17, 24, and 31, 2015

Organizers: kultúrAktív Association and its partners (Élő Tűzfalak Budapest)

Urbanity is a live street-based social game whose foundation is the city itself, and whose narrative framework is reality. How do our decisions influence the shaping of the city? How can we make our own neighborhoods better, more livable, and more interesting? Urbanity initiates dialogue among city residents, provides an opportunity to express opinions, and activates and encourages players to take part in shaping their own living environment.

For six weeks, the team of kultúrAktív launches the game in a surprise-like manner at the constantly changing and exciting locations of the Off-Biennale: galleries, studios, unused properties, private apartments, entertainment venues, and public spaces, inviting passersby to participate. On the game’s website, interested visitors can follow the street actions and the imprints of the cities created together. They can also find informative articles about concepts and phenomena related to the game (e.g., sustainable urban management, flash mobs, guerrilla knitting, etc.). The website also functions as a forum: by sharing calls and competitions, it encourages community thinking among city residents so they can connect to similar initiatives and formulate their own questions about the city.
