Ritual Resist

Ritual Resist

April 26, 2015

Concept: Kendell Geers

Ritual Resist is the metaphor of two people living or working together – a series of motions, which can be interpreted as dance, that also points out the prejudices that we often have about each other. In the performance of Kendell Geers, the task of the two individuals of different sexes is to hold a mirror in the air without letting it fall using their naked bodies. As time progresses, this task gets more and more difficult as the bodies start to sweat then to tire. On the other hand, the challenge is not purely of physical nature, but has psychical and emotional aspects as well in as much as it becomes clear to the individuals that in order to succeed they have to rely on the other without seeing them only their own reflection. The beholders of this performance, which balances between dance and martial arts, can be witnesses of that the cooperation may only work if the individuals distance their own egos in the right time and with the right force, while they partake of the others’.
