Real time – lecture and screening
April 28, 2015
Lecturer: Dobrila Denegri
First screening of inedited video-works by Serbian and Croatian conceptual artists, realized in 1976 within one of the first Yugoslavian residency-programs “Brdo”, organized and produced by Krinzinger Gallery, Vienna
Experimental and analytic video-art in the former Yugoslavia: Boris Demur, Neša Paripović, Raša Todosijević, Goran Trbuljak, Mladen Stilinović and Slobodan Šijan.
In 1976 a group of artists active in Belgrade and Zagreb gathered in Brdo, a small village in Istria, in the first “new-media” residency organized by Viennese gallerist Ursula Krinzinger. Within the program of OFF-Biennále Budapest will be presented, for the first time after ’76, a selection of video works realized in that occasion by Croatian and Serbian artists: Boris Demur, Neša Paripović, Raša Todosijević, Goran Trbuljak, Mladen Stilinović and Slobodan Šijan.
As participants of a residency which gave them an opportunity and equipment to realize video-works, this six artists came up with quite specific productions which reflect that specific moment in time, when video was approached in analytical way, used and questioned as both, medium and message. Video-works produced during this ‘residency’ today are seen as precious and valuable documents which testify about conceptual and experimental approaches in video-art in one part of former Eastern-Europe.
