Artmagazin Loves Miskolc

May 23, 2015

Organizers: Emese Mucsi , Nóra Winkler, Tünde Topor

In May, the entire Artmagazin team will travel to Miskolc, where our first stop will immediately be the BorIs Borozó. For us, too, good atmosphere is the most important thing, yet we will visit BorIs primarily because of the Miklós Erdély mosaic decorating its wall—so that we can touch the small tiles and remember the artist.

After the visit, a pleasant, easy-paced local orientation walk will follow, during which we will explore downtown Miskolc. This information-rich stroll together will continue until the early afternoon public discussion. We will sit down at a table—some of us talking, some eating, as they wish. During the informal roundtable conversation, together with experts we will share behind-the-scenes insights about the Erdély mosaics seen in the morning, and we will also ask and answer questions about Miskolc as an artistic site.

Alongside the mosaic, and in the spirit of civic initiatives, we will also discuss an old story from the “steel city”: the history of the Kollektív Ház (Collective House), known in Hungary as one of the earliest examples of community living initiated from the grassroots level.

Until departure later in the day, the remaining hours will be free: a summer walk, a bus tour of the former ironworks district, ice cream, a stroll along the Szinva stream, an exhibition opening at the Egymű Gallery, and more.
