Culture and Free Time
Culture and Free Time
October 26 – December 4, 2017
A video series about 6 of Budapest’s cultural and artistic centres. Based on the tradition of nineteenth-century worker’s clubs, these began to be built throughout the city in the nineteen-fifties. Later they became important sites for the unofficial cultural scene. Following the political transitions of 1989/1990 these places have faced transformations, a loss of their important cultural role, and closure, but their questions are still pertinent: what kinds of spaces does culture have a need for, and what do we understand as culture? This project, which won the Golden Lion prize in 2007 at the Biennale di Venezia, is now presented with new elements.
Exhibiting artist: Andreas Fogarasi
Curator: Péter Bencze
Venue: Csili Cultural Center (1201 Budapest, Nagy Győry István utca 4-6.)
