Words of Power 1-3<\/b><\/span><\/h1>\n

Adaptations of Political Speeches
\nConcept: \u00c1gnes Eperjesi<\/p>\n

Words of Power<\/em> is a three-part project, dealing with the impact of political speech. The texts are presented in three venues, symbolizing different levels of power.
\nI selected the original speeches based on which topics I, as a citizen, feel are urgently missing from political public discourse. I chose speeches by foreign politicians who are currently in power. In the work, the invoked presidents and prime ministers take a stance on four social issues that are considered particularly important in other countries as well:
\n1. the issue of division within a country;
\n2. the question of citizens\u2019 autonomy;
\n3. the consequences of sustainability;
\n4. and finally the topic of sexism.<\/p>\n

The original speeches were adapted according to the requirements of the specific locations.<\/p>\n

Words of Power<\/em> was created as part of the Check Your Head!<\/em> program of the OFF-Bienn\u00e1le Budapest<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n

First location: the Hungarian Parliament<\/strong><\/h2>\n

On April 13, 2015, four Words of Power<\/em> speeches were delivered as post-agenda addresses by opposition members of parliament.<\/p>\n

The adapted speeches:<\/strong>
\n\u2013 the 2014 inaugural speech of Ewa Kopacz<\/span><\/span><\/strong>,<\/span>
\n\u2013 the speech of Toomas Hendrik Ilves<\/span><\/span><\/strong> on Estonian Independence Day<\/span><\/span>, delivered on February 24, 2015,<\/span>
\n\u2013 the speech delivered by Jos\u00e9 Mujica<\/span><\/span><\/strong> at the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development<\/span><\/span> in 2012,<\/span>
\n\u2013 the parliamentary speech against misogyny delivered in 2012 by Julia Gillard<\/span><\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

T<\/span>he videos are recordings from the official state documentation system, since recording moving images or audio is prohibited in the Hungarian Parliament Building<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n
