OFF-Capitaly/Gazdálkodj OFF-osan! is a life-size, mobile board game, designed after the popular board game used widely under Communism in Hungary. In the context of the game we seek to explore the opportunities a young artist may have in today’s Hungary. The ultimate goal of the game is to achieve self-reliance. Playing board games was a popular pastime after World War II, where player had to reach the goal, while complying with the game’s rules. The Hungarian adaptation of Monopoly, the board game that become popular after 1939, is Capitaly, which greatly differs from the original in that here players do not influence each other and success depends solely on luck. What opportunities does a young artist have in Hungary today? What obstacles does he/she face and what kind of support can he/she rely on, while trying to keep his/her independence? The goal of the game is nothing but to create a sustainable artistic life path. When designing the game we had no intention of creating the right model of an artist trajectory, which would provide a solution for everything; instead, we sought to grasp and explore the difficulties of artistic life, while making it easy to understand for everyone.
