MENÜ imaginare, an exhibition and event series part of OFF Biennale Budapest is presenting the work of multiple artists with French connections, working on the boundaries of art and design. The creative duo, Arvid&Marie as well as Thomas P. Grogan and his collaborators at the Tuda Syuda collective are turning their attention towards researching new technologies penetrating and constantly shaping our lives, and their societal effects.

Both projects feature the clash of two entities with different interests. Tudy Syuda (meaning back and forth), created by Thomas P. Grogan and his collaborators is a speculative terraforming platform, containing the ‘conversation’ between two AI systems, Chef and Farmer. This hypnotic system simulates future negotiations and meetings between producers and chefs, presenting futuristic dishes to the consumers.

Even though machines have more and more autonomy and play an increasingly important role in our everyday life, society still doesn’t recognise them as equal entities. S.A.M. (The Symbiotic Autonomous Machine), the work of Dutch-French artist duo Arvid&Marie is a hybrid, autonomous machine. This automated, small-scale food production unit that “employs” Japanese crystal mushrooms and kombucha, serves a fermented soft drink.

During the event, the artist will present their creative practices with a special focus on the artworks on view at MENÜ imaginaire.

The language of the event will be English. We will record it and stream it on the Facebook page of OFF Biennale.

The project is realised in the framework of OFF Biennale 2021, as part of the exhibition MENÜ imaginaire.

Artist bios:

Arvid&Marie is a duo of artists, experience designers and technological adventurers always aiming to discover new ways to stretch our world. Together Arvid Jense (NL, MSc at TU/e) and Marie Caye (FR, BA Design Academy Eindhoven) collaborate on their shared passion for art and technology. Through the use of interactive objects and performative storytelling, Arvid&Marie use their collaborative effort to explore post-human theories, focusing their creative attention on practical cybernetics and autonomous machines. They believe that researching how humans express themselves, philosophically and technologically, can lead to long lasting, positive change. https://arvidandmarie.com/
