The artworks presented in the framework of When Art(ist) Speaks are based on speech and the possibilities of its adaptation in contemporary art (e.g. documentary radio drama, chamber opera, performance, monodrama).

The central concept of the project is the art of talking as an art form. The precursors of speech act, little used in Hungarian contemporary art, can be found in the Hungarian neo-avant-garde, working mainly illegally, where speech act was a favourite medium, serving as the structuring, central element of street actions, radio performances or readings in private homes.

Texts are fundamental to the works of artists participating in the performances planned for different locations. Artists this time will place an emphasis on vocal speech, the way of presentation or display, or on performative presentation requiring personal presence. Literary adaptations and personal stories, often serving as the starting point of the artworks, are connected on account of their context of cultural and memory policy, as well as the chosen "vocal" genres and presentation forms such as the radio drama, opera, reading and the mono drama.
