Aerocene: Museo Aero Solar

Aerocene Explorer is an inflatable floating sculpture that rises into the air without fossil fuels, solely using the energy of the sun and the wind.

The piece was developed by Tomás Saraceno in collaboration with the meteorology researchers of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Known for his scientific observations and awe-inspiring installations, Saraceno is regarded as one of the world’s most influential artists.  Aerocene is a scientific-artistic research community launched by Saraceno, to create projects in response to the fossil energy crisis with the collaboration of artists designers, researchers from the fields of social and natural sciences

A floating sculpture over Budapest? Launched in the scope of public events or climate protests as such, the sculpture utilizes the parameters of the local atmosphere and is also applicable for their measurement. It envisions the conditions following the depletion of fossil fuel sources and inspires us to ponder the impact of mobility on our lifestyle.

What would happen if we were capable of traveling without exploiting and polluting nature, but in fact cooperating with its forces? How can the most modern science, human collaboration, and art help us find our way back to harmony with nature? 

One version of the project is Museo Aero Solar (2007–), initiated by Alberto Passavento and Saraceno, which invites local communities to collaborate in making their own balloon out of used plastic bags, which then they launch on its journey across the sky.
